Joan Byamugisha awarded Best Student Paper Award at the 2016 Controlled Natural Language Workshop

Joan Byamugisha a doctoral student in the Department of Computer Science was awarded the Best Student Paper award for her peer-reviewed submission [1, 2] at the 2016 Controlled Natural Language Workshop, held in Aberdeen, Scotland. Joan is supervised by Dr. Maria Keet and Dr. Brian DeRenzi.

ICT4D Seminars - A Fourth Paradigm on the Horizon?

On May 17 2016, Dr. Ineke Buskens gave a talk titled 'A Fourh Paradigm on the Horizon?'. In attendance were researchers and postgraduate students from the University of Cape Town and University of the Western Cape.

ICT4D Workshop on Learning from Failure

The Centre for ICT4D hosted a day-long ICT4D Workshop on 'Learning from Failure' on January 20 2015. The workshop was co-organised by a team of researcher from Swansea University, and was primarily aimed at reflecting and exploring experiences of learning from failure in ICT4D projects. A number of individuals attended the work, the majority of whom were local South African ICT4D researchers.

Conference Report: Southern African Institute for Computer Scientists and Information Technologists (SAICSIT '14)

We (A/Prof. Suleman, King'ori Maina, Sean Packham, Yamiko Msosa and myself) formed part of the list of delegates at this year's Southern African Institute for Computer Scientists and Information Technologists (SAICSIT) conference [1]; held between September 29 and October 3 in Pretoria. The conference was hosted by the Department of Informatics at the University of Pretoria. This was my third time attending SAICSIT---having had attended the 2011 and 2013 events, and it just keeps getting better.
