Biography:

I am an MSc student in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Cape Town. I work under the supervision of Dr. Brian DeRenzi and Dr. Serge Raemaekers. I have a BSc (Hons) degree from the University of Cape Town in Computer Science.

Research Project / Interests:

My research is based on the Abalobi. Abalobi means 'fisher' in isiXhosa, it is an open, transdisciplinary and social learning project, bringing together various stakeholders. The initiative aims at developing and providing a set of pratical tools to enable and empower the governence of small-scale fisheries by the community members themselves. These tools will include data collection forms based on the Open Data Kit platform, to allow fishers to log their catch data using mobile phones instead of paper forms, a guide for saftey at sea, as well as provide a platform for fishers can get into contact with buyers, providing the fishers with a means of selling the fish they have caught.
